Who's your favourite commentator?
|
Jonathan Pearce - mental cunt, used to jump out his seat and scream over throw-ins, always seemed to like us too
John Motson - the old voice of MoTD, a true British institution
Andres Cantor - the Argie who made the famous "goooooooooooooooooooooooooooal" shout. Still cracks me up on YouTube clips. Hero.
You lot?

Can't remember the fight, can't remember the the channel, it may have been ITV ppv. But whoever the commentator was, he was top notch.

Friend of mine worked for one of the big sponsors of the 98 world cup. Stayed at the same hotel as Barry Davies, John Motson and, iirc, Sir Trev. Spent a fair bit of time with them at the bar in the evenings.
She said the former was an utter cunt. Ignorant, arrogant sack of shit. The latter two were absolute gentlemen. Which is exactly as I would have expected.

Brian Moore is the best rugby commentator for me, although the late, great Bill McLaren will never be matched - 'there'll be snow on that one'.
Fabien Galthie does a great job on frog TV for the rugby too. Wenger does the CL games for French tv and is absolutely abject.

I liked Jonathan Pearce, he had a soft spot for us and when he wasn't bawling like some climaxing walrus, actually had some decent things to say and wasn't afraid to say them.
Motson should have retired years ago. He was always a pompous prat and he's got worse over the years.
Tony Gubba was the worst for me by some margin. His "oh no!" oh yes! oh no!" attacks used to drive me nuts.
I liked Archie Macpherson, like Scottish football itself, he tried hard but it was always more of a comedy turn. "A pinpoint pass that unlocked the key" and stuff like that he used to come out with, bless him.
